It is also one of Judaism's greatest insights that
It is not exposition of ideas which is meaningful but the performance of deeds
The Life & Hope project has been conceived by those for whom Humanitarianism is not an idea, a word, but a behavior
Life & Hope creates projects and provides material support to doctors who provide medical attention to those in need affected by natural or human made catastrophes
The Life & Hope
In Judaism, the bystander's duty to come to the rescue
of his fellow human being who is in peril
is religious, ethical and legal.
Jewish Law commands not to make oneself invisible when another in is danger or in need
The Scriptural words upon which one must come to the assistance of one in peril are found in the following context:
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment; thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor favor the person of the mighty; but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbor. Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand idly by the blood of thy neighbor: I am the Lord"
(Lev. 19: 15-16)
Accordingly, to rescue a person in danger of losing life, limb or property is one of Judaism's core values.
The obligation not to stand idly by at another’s injury applies internationally, as a duty to intervene against lack of healthcare, famine, drought, earthquake, tsunami-and, yes, genocide, torture, disappearance, slavery, human trafficking, and oppression.”
